2018 WorldOregon International Speaker Series: Matters of Fact
Hard-hitting, truth-seeking journalism is one of the bedrocks of a healthy democracy. It's perhaps the best antidote to the flurry of alternative facts, partisan noise, and the 24-hour news cycle. Join us as we present four of today's most celebrated writers and journalists reporting on the ideas and issues shaping our world.
Masha Gessen was the winner of the 2017 National Book Award in nonfiction, is a staff writer at The New Yorker, and is the author of several books, among them The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin. The recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Carnegie Fellowship, Gessen teaches at Amherst College and lives in New York City.
Join us as we welcome Masha Gessen to the 18th season of WorldOregon's International Speaker Series—one of the nation’s premier platforms for international affairs. The series puts you in the room with the global leaders, visionaries, and inspiring voices that are changing our world.
Ticket sales help support the work of WorldOregon (also known as the World Affairs Council of Oregon)—connecting Oregonians to the world since 1950! WorldOregon programs support Oregonian students, educators, youth, and adults by accelerating cross-cultural understanding. We build global relationships through events, education programs, visitor hosting, travel, and more. Visit worldoregon.org to get involved!
