Birds are some of the most vocal animals on Earth. Through their vocalizations and movement, they continually broadcast the drama happening on the land. Many birds need to be keenly aware of predators from above, like a Cooper's hawk on the hunt, as well as those hunting in the trees and on the ground. For people looking to read the landscape, paying attention to and understanding the vocalizations of birds can reveal that beyond which we humans notice on our own. As the light begins to rapidly increase, February is a great time to dive into the basics of bird language. Join naturalist and educator Ashley Conley for a night of learning how to decipher basic patterns of song and alarms that will help you tap into this amazing interspecies communication.

About Ecology Club: Join us on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss an ecological theme that pertains to Bark’s work on Mt Hood or seasonal skills to give the community a deeper appreciation and understanding of NW ecology. Some months we will have presenters sharing their skill or knowledge with the community. Others, we will work as a group on a predetermined theme to discuss a broader topic, such as «thinning», fire ecology, wildflowers, birds, road ecology, or other topics the group is inclined to discuss.
