February at Gnosis is going to be an amazing month! We're proud to have Proper Movement and Subduction Audio–two forces in Portland drum n bass that have had a huge role and influence in our scene–represented at the night, we have the head of Proper Movement, the legendary Dirt Merchant, and the talented Scot Free from Subduction Audio coming through! With the Gnosis Crew warming up it's a dnb connection! (...plus after midnight it's Valentine's day...)
The Dirt Merchant — Proper Movement — 12-1
The Dirt Merchant started playing Drum & Bass at the tender age of eight years old!!! It didn't take long for him to form his own night. His weekly, Proper Movement was crucial in keeping Drum and Bass alive in Portland, after Crush DnB ended. His style is one of the few that integrates turntablist techniques, and an ear for heavy tunes and the dancefloor that often incorporates a Ragga flavor as well. The man completely destroyed the dance floor at the last show we played with him- this night is not to be missed!
Scot Free — Subduction Audio — 1-2:30
Born and raised in Springfield, MO; Scot Free became addicted to the sound of Drum & Bass after first hearing it in 2000, then began spinning it in 2005. Influenced by the jazzy and soulful sounds of Hospital Records early on, he found a niche that had not yet been explored by other Drum & Bass DJs in the region. He would go on to become part of regional B2B act This Guy That Guy and play several shows and festivals in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. From 2009 through 2012, he was a resident and promoter of Fresh Mode, Southwest Missouri's longest running electronic music showcase, expanding into multiple genres including House, Techno, and Breakbeat. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 2013 and is now part of Subduction Audio, helping to produce some of the best Drum and Bass promotions and productions in the area. He has played alongside such legends as Dara, Dieselboy, John B., Reid Speed, Current Value, and Spinscott.
