Show your river some love and join us for our 2nd annual Valentine’s Day Dip — Thursday Feb. 14, 2019 at 7:30am! Meet us at Willamette Park on the west side of the river. Look for our tents. REGISTRATION starts at 7am — come early to see the 7:14am sunrise!
We’ll be celebrating 108 days straight without a CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) in the Willamette River. All participants will receive two free admissions to The Big Float 9, plus Water Avenue Coffee and treats from Lovejoy Bakers!
PLUS Sauna Velo, the mobile bike sauna, will be there for apre warming. Please wear swim shoes!
Please RSVP to this event page and invite friends and other Willamette River lovers!
Why are we jumping into the river in the middle of winter? Because it’s there. With supervision, it’s safe for swimming. And we need to show people how easy it is to embrace their river.
There are people in Portland who believe EVERY time it rains — regardless of the amount of rain, sewage flows into the Willamette River. Not true! This event will bring attention to the FACT that in 2018 there were a total of two sewage overflows which is an occurrence of about 0.6% of the year. We’re not apologizing for sewage overflows — just helping present them in a reasonable context. When a sewage overflow does happen it is typically 80% storm water and 20% sewage.
This is a fun way to bring attention to something positive in our community with your river-loving friends. Don’t be shy if you like to wear costumes!
Join us for the Valentine’s Day Dip when loving your river gives you goose bumps!
